Wellness Doula Support

If you are living with a chronic illness, especially with a disease like lupus, you are more than familiar with the inconsistencies that come with compromised health.  Even for those of us who have been at it awhile, we are occasionally blind-sided and caught off guard in how easily our health can turn our days upside down. There are challenging symptoms, erratic energy levels, physical and emotional barriers, and the overwhelming sense that your words cannot describe the experiences you are having with those you love.  With every pill or pain, we’re reminded that we aren’t the person we once were.

Whether you are new to illness (as a patient or a loved one of a patient) or you are well-versed in life with illness and are in need of some supportive assistance, I offer emotional, physical (non-medical), and social support when you need it.  As with a traditional doula who serves the new mother in supporting her in the care of herself and the new baby/ life, I do the same in supporting you in your self-care and your life with chronic illness.

Do you need an hour to feel like you are the mom you want to be?  Then let me clean up the kitchen, prep dinner, or vacuum while you have some fun with your kids.  Do you need to grab a nap, but have too much on your to-do list? Do you need to eat healthier, but just don’t have the energy to get yourself started on a meal plan?

My role is to help you strengthen your healthcare and management adherence by offering in-person support  bridging the wellness goals you develop with your provider(s) by translating the “how” to your home environment (no sharing of confidential information required).

My Wellness Doula services offered to women include:

  • A free, in-person consultation to discuss what wellness facilitation can offer you specific to you
  • Chat/email support when barriers occur in your plans
  • Flexibility in scheduling monthly, weekly or on-call options
  • Support services include light housekeeping, home organization, laundry, shopping, meal preparation, weekly meal planning/prepping, gardening
  • Short-term child care to help you keep your medical appointments
  • In-home partnering with relaxation and stress-reduction techniques, exercise partnership, meal-preparation and planning …all of which are designed by you to reinforce your existing health/treatment plans through providers
  • Confidentiality and respectful support that honors your own understanding of you wellness needs.

My Professional and Personal experiences I bring with me as your Wellness Doula are:

  • Social service and counseling professional background
  • Training in and experience in leading self-management programs for chronic conditions
  • Lupus nephritis ‘thriver’ for over a decade
  • CPR, First Aid and Food handler certified
  • Collaborates with local health professionals, agencies, foundations and programs
  • A mother of two girls who turned out just fine, even during my worst days

Fees

My belief is that everyone should be able to afford supportive care from time to time.  Therefore, the fees for services are kept relatively low and are determined on a case-by-case basis.  Hourly and/or contract rates are applied with some minimums.  Mileage applied for distance travel and errands.

Contact me with any questions you have and let’s talk about the support you need.
