“U” is for underneath it all

 My LUPUS is…

On the outside, there are things about me that you see.  However, there is much more to me underneath it all.  These are some things you need to see as well.

Underneath

 my skin, there is-

…an immune system working too hard to defend it’s ’self’

…a sick person working too hard to defend her ’self’

my flare, there is-

…an inflamed body that is in distress

…an inflamed sense of purpose that is in distress

my anger, there is-

…adrenalin, hormones and pain fueling my rage

…fear, worry  and loss of control fueling my rage

my swollen legs and hands, there are-

…a build-up of fluid that I have to carry

…a build-up of emotions that I have to carry

my rashes and lesions, there are-

…too many killer cells sending out an SOS

…too many reasons I should be sending out an SOS

Underneath my words, sobs, multi-tasking, offers to help you, and unexplained seclusion, there is-

…a body that doesn’t recognize what is ’self’ and what is ‘foreign’

…a woman who doesn’t recognize her ’self’ and who ’she’ is now.
